Participatory rice variety development: An important aspect of variety development for the drought prone rainfed lowland rice ecosystem
is the actual evaluation of the developed breeding lines in the target areas.  Adaptability and acceptability trials are conducted in partnership
with the researchers, extension workers and farmers in the locality. This photo depicts the active involvement cum capacity enhancement
of the local partners in the evaluation and selection of well performing and acceptable breeding lines in the trial established on-site,
in the farmer’s field. This activity ensures fast adoption and dissemination of the technology
once the identified elite breeding lines are approved for commercial release as new varieties.
